Joshia
de Jonge ("yo-SHEE-uh") began her interest in the art of
fine guitar making, in earnest, when she was sixteen years old! She
had the distinct advantage of having daily access to master luthier,
and father, Sergei de Jonge. Using his shop, tools, jigs and experience,
she was guided through the process. She also attended her father's
luthier school, began at that time, and has the distinction of graduating
with the very first class. |

However,
Joshia has brought her own insights and creativity to the process.
She has turned out guitars that have quickly grasped the attention
of the guitar community. For example, at the 1999 gathering of the
Guild of American Luthiers (GAL), where hundreds of the world's best
guitar makers meet, two of her instruments were submitted (among other
senior luthiers), for an anonymous review. Her nylon-string received
an ovation from the crowd. Then the MC asked the maker to identify
him or herself. The crowd was stunned when the timid young maker stood
up! |
